March/April 2018

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“Neither is there salvation in any other:

for there is none other name under heaven given among men,

whereby we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

Once again, we are excited to see what God is doing.  I cannot say that we have not had our share of challenges and disappointments, all missionaries do, but we know Who is on the throne and in control of it all.  In the end, it will be worth it all.  We feel blessed to serve the Lord in Brazil!

On March 25th we had a very special day.  We celebrated the church’s one year anniversary.  On that day after Sunday School, we went to a piece of property on the river and had lunch together.  Every place we have lived, in Brazil, the customs are a little different, just like they are in different regions in the states.  The people here are very simple and instead of wanting their beef grilled they wanted it cooked on the disk of a plow.  We had never seen this done before, and it was interesting watching them cook so much meat with a little can of ethanol to heat the disk.  After the meal we had our first baptism with five people baptized.  It was such a blessing. After this we had an afternoon service.

This past month I did a three day study on Faith Promise Giving to the church.  It was exciting to see the people getting involved in the giving process for missions.  We also had a Brazilian missionary that is headed to India come to the church and present his work.  The people were able to understand a little more about giving and how missions works.

We have had three more professions of faith and a young lady who has been faithful in the services rededicate her life to Christ.  We have also had a young man named Lucas who has been coming faithfully.  He has just finished rehab for drug use, and we have already started a Bible study with him.  The past few weeks we have had a number of first time visitors.  This has been a blessing, and we continue to do follow up visits.  After one lady visited, we made a visit to her house.  She came back with her husband the following Sunday night.

Continue to pray for the work here.  We have others that want to be baptized and have another couple that has already started their process to legally be married.

We ask you to continue praying with us about the property.  As mentioned in previous letters, we are asking for God’s wisdom in the purchasing process.  One Saturday while my family was passing out tracts door to door, we came upon a property for sale in a very nice location.  It has a building on it that with a little work could be used for a church building.  So I called the owner and when she told me the price, I could not believe what I was hearing.  The price they are asking is just over $20,000 dollars.  God has already given us $19,135 dollars.  That leaves us only $1,200 dollars shy of what we need.  With the dollar going up it has increased our buying power.  When her husband returns from a trip he is on, we plan on sitting down and making an offer on this property.  Prayerfully, next week.

As was mentioned in the last prayer letter, we are working on the process of constituting the church.  I was able to meet with a lawyer in town and she said she would not charge for her part in the process.  I also talked to the person responsible at the registry office, and he was very kind and helpful.

Thank you once again for praying and giving so that we can reach souls

here in Guarantã do Norte.
